The Morning Boost  



The first thing I feel in the Morning is that sense of laziness and idealism that I can just stay in bed for that little bit longer. Sadly, with most of us this is not the case, whether it be due to Work, Children, studies or so forth. Here is a great smoothie recipe that will give you enough energy to see you through till Lunch, whilst offering generous amounts of Fibre, Slow burning Carbs and energy-boosting Sugars. So here is is what you will need:

  • Blender [Need one of these?]
  • 1 Banana
  • Handful of Blackberries
  • 2-5 Strawberries
  • Half a Cup of any Oat based Cereal
  • 1 Cup of Milk

The amount listed should serve one person and allow a little extra for a quick fix later on or if you are just in thirsty for more!

Step 1
The First step is to chop the Banana into segments and place them in the blender along with the cup of Milk. Set at a low speed and leave to blend whilst you complete the next Step.

Step 2
Select a few Strawberries and wash them with water, removing the leaves attached if not already done so. Grab a handful of Blackberries and put both of these fruits in a cup.

Step 3
Check to see that the Banana and Milk have mixed nicely together with minimal chunks left in the mixture. Add the cup of Fruits to the Blender and set again at a low speed. The mixture should almost immediately turn a light Pink shade. Now does that look appetizing or what!

Step 4
You could simply remove this mixture now for a light snack, or a light breakfast before your Morning Jog or Walk, but... were going to thicken it up a little to make it more filling and allow you to get some of the good nutrients that are in Oats. So, pour out half a cup (you can use the same cup as the fruits, it wont kill you!) of your favourite Breakfast Oat-based Cereal. Oats are slow burning, which means they will provide your body with slow releasing energy until lunch, helping you miss those mid morning snacking craves. The amount of Oats you add is your choice. I say half a cup, but feel free to add more if you feel you could use the extra energy. Be careful not to overpower the taste though, or consumption will be more of a chore than a pleasure!

Step 5
Check the Mixture again, it should be nice and smooth in texture, not too thin, and not yogurt thick. Stop the Blender and add the oats in. Place on a low speed (this will mix the ingredients around as well as chop them). Go and get a glass, this will be around a Pint size mix. Once you have done that, switch the speed of the Blender up progressively, counting 10 seconds on each speed. Stop and check the mixture is nice and smooth, it will be thicker now the Oats are in.

Step 6
Enjoy your Morning Boost Smoothie!

NOTE: This Smoothie can be made on the night prior to drinking it to save time. Simply follow these same instructions and place in a Fridge overnight, ready for immediate consumption in the Morning!
